The Governor of Bangkok today opened the “Experience the Charm of the Chao Phraya River” event, which will throughout the day hand out travel booklets to tourists along the river. The campaign has the objective to create continual economic growth for the next year with cooperation from 100 private organizations.

Bangkok Governor Mom Rachawong Sukhumband Paribatra presided over the launching of the campaign created in cooperation between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Bureau of Culture’s Tourism Office. The campaign is aimed at promoting tourism activities along Thailand’s most major river – the Chao Phraya. The campaign, designed to use booklets to dispense information on tourism along the Chao Phraya and in Bangkok, is part of efforts to stimulate the economy at the community level.

Activities were held this morning as part of the launch ceremony, including retail stores being on hand to allow visitors a sample of the many goods they can find throughout Bangkok. Speedboat operators along the river have also contributed services to the campaign, setting up special tours along the Chao Phraya complete with tour guides between 9.00am and 3.00pm. The 150 baht tours lead travelers on a route of many of Bangkok’s most major landmarks including the Grand Palace and Pra Athit pier. Tour goers are also given special discount tickets to be used at the various stops. Private businesses and venues participating in the campaign have been granted “Bangkok Smile” stickers to allow tourists to better choose services conforming to the BMA’s efforts.

The BMA Bureau of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be the base of operations for the campaign.
