The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) on Wednesday started the first trial run of the airport link from Makkasan station to Suvarnabhumi (See Hotels near Suvarnabhumi airport) International Airport.

About 800 people joined in the test-run which took 15 minutes from Makkasan in the capital city of Bangkok (See Bangkok Hotels) to Suvarnabhumi airport Suvarnabhumi (See Hotels near Suvarnabhumi airport) in Samut Prakan (See Samut Prakan Hotels) province. The test-run received positive feedback from the passengers.

SRT Governor Yuthana Tapcharoen however admitted that there were some problems found in directional signs and routes connecting the subway and sky train. The SRT will immediately solve the mentioned problems before the full-scale commercial operation of the airport link expected to begin in April 2010.

The airport link has the distance of 28 kilometers with 8 stations. The train will run at 160 kilometers per hour and is expected to have passengers to its maximum capacity of 50,000 people a day.
