Tourism and Sports: Railway strike affects tourism

the State Railway of Thailand

The Tourism and Sports minister admits the current railway strike is impacting tourism, believing the problem will end in 2 days.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Chumpol Silpa-archa assured that the strike would be resolved soon because Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Transport Minister Sopon Zarum were capable of handling the problem. The minister expressed his belief that the railway strike was not politically motivated and it was only an internal affair of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

Interior Minister Chavarat Chavarat Charnvirakul noted that the transport minister was hurrying to find resolutions for the strike while prioritizing the public’s convenience as the most important factor.

Some southern trains have stopped operating since 17 October. The SRT Labor Union said the train services there needed to be temporarily canceled due to some technical difficulties and a lack of train officers on duty.
