Coral recovery projects launched

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources will request for a budget of 17 billion baht from the government to build artificial coral within five years.

The department said coral recovery would be overseen by a special committee recently set up by the government. It is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Major General Sanan Kajornprasart.

Jatuphorn Buruphat, the director-general of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, said that 17,000 Rai of deteriorated coral nationwide, and the incumbent board of committee had set plans to launch 226 coral recovery projects per year for five years.

Unfortunately, Mr Jatuphorn said that it was still unclear whether the project’s funding would be from which part of the government’s economic stimulus Strong Thailand Scheme. (NNT)
