The international mask dance on show at Thailand Cultural Center

The international mask dance was put on today’s show at the 2009 International mask conference which is being held at the Thailand Cultural Center.

To develop the international cultural networks on the creation of masks, the 2009 international conference on mask arts and culture has been launched by the Ministry of Culture with the participation of 29 countries.

The masks that have been displayed in the conference have come from various places such as Bali, Indonesia as well as the popular Andong masks from South Korea and the masks used in Chinese opera. For Thailand, the Thai government has been promoting the Khon masks as well as Thai ghost masks called Phi Ta Khon, while Bhutan brought along their masks that showed the country’s deep relations with the Buddhist faith. Latin America also presented their colorful masks made from variety of material. Japanese masks reflected myth and old tradition. (NNT)
