World Food Day event to be held in Nan Province this year

The Thai government and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are in cooperation to hold the World Food Day event in Nan province to increase awareness on food sufficiency and to alleviate hunger among Nan residents.

Each year the World Food Day event is scheduled to take place at different provinces throughout the country, to promote the collaboration with the community, said Deputy Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Dr Sakchai Sriboonsue. The event will be held at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) under the theme “Achieving food security in time of crisis”.

Technical exhibitions will be held on soil and water conservation, organic agriculture, animal husbandry, aquatic animal breeding, plant propagation and growing as well as rice terracing, integrated farming, Thai herb, prototype local community and the operation of Health-Conscious Civil Society Network of Nan.

The drawing and essay competition on World food Day was one of the activities. A number of booths will be set up to sell local food and agricultural products as well as a seminar to discuss food security in the time of crisis and to stimulate private food producers to supply more products and to provide alternative ways for food sufficiency.
