The high-speed electric trains connecting the heart of Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi airport will be officially operational in the next three months, according to the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, stated during his weekly talk show” Confidence in Thailand with Prime Minister Abhisit”, that the Airport Rail Link could start its commercial service in three months with a maximum fare of approximately 150 baht. He said the fare was deemed as very low for a 15 minute ride on the 28 kilometre long route.

The express train system runs non-stop between Makkasan station and Suvarnabhumi airport and takes 15 minutes with a fare of 150 THB or less. The other service is the city-line system which lasts 30 minutes and begins from Phaya Thai station and goes to Ratchaprarob, Makkasan, Asoke, Ram Khamhaeng, Hua Mak, Ban Thabchang, Lat Krabang and Suvarnabhumi stations.

The Prime Minister, last Friday, presided over the launching of a test run of high speed electric trains linking inner Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi airport.

Transport Minister, Sophon Zarum, and several cabinet ministers were reportedly present at the event and also caught the electric train from Makkasan station to Suvarnabhumi International Airport. (NNT)
