    Thailand may face labour shortage

    Successful birth control in Thailand may cause a shortage of labourers in the country in “less than five years,” warned a senior Labour Ministry official Sunday.

    Songsri Boonba, deputy director-general of the Employment Department, said a study by the Labour Market Research Division found that demand for labour in Thailand between 2010-2014 will increase every year, especially in the production, agriculture, industry and service sectors. (More …)

    Informal debt registration commences

    The first day of registration under the informal debt-refinancing program saw more than 17,000 people signing up in various parts of the country.

    The headquarters of the Government Savings Bank was crowded this morning as today is the first day of registration for the government’s informal debt restructuring scheme. Nakhon Ratchasima and Pichit are two top provinces with the highest number of registrants. (More …)

    The Thai government and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are in cooperation to hold the World Food Day event in Nan province to increase awareness on food sufficiency and to alleviate hunger among Nan residents.

    Each year the World Food Day event is scheduled to take place at different provinces throughout the country, to promote the collaboration with the community, said Deputy Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Dr Sakchai Sriboonsue. The event will be held at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL) under the theme “Achieving food security in time of crisis”. (More …)

    Thailand as the food producer of the world aims to eliminate starvation by 2025 

    The Agriculture Ministry affirmed the aim of Thailand to be the food producer for the world,with balancing of economic plants producing, targeted both exports and reserve for security. The draft declaration has been prepared for the Declaration of World Summit on Food Security in Italy.

    The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC), Sakchai Siboonsue cited on the country’s participation in the Declaration of World Summit on Food Security, arranged by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) every 5 years. Mr.Kobsak Sapavasu, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MOAC and delegates will attend the summit during 16-18 November 2009 in Rome, Italy. The said summit is aimed to reduce the starvation and food insecurity within 2025. The announcement of Food Security Declaration will be included in the Summit. The declaration would be the direction for the world and national performance. (More …)

    Mongolia and Pakistan to vote for Thailand as a member of the World Heritage Committee 



    Mongolia and Pakistan agrees to vote for Thailand as a member of the World Heritage Committee in the upcoming election on 23 October at the 35th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris.

    Minister of Education, Jurin Laksanawisit reveals after discussing with his Pakistani counterpart, Mr. Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, and the Mongolian Minister of education, Mr. Yondon Otgonbayar, during the UNESCO Annual General Conference in Paris that Pakistan was interested in the success of Thailand’s education policy as 90% of Thai citizens were literate compared to the 50% literacy in Pakistan.     The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka in cooperation with the Thai Trade Centre in Dhaka, Thai Airways International and the Tourism Authority of Thailand organized the 3-day Destination Thailand Fair 2009 during 16-18 July 2009 on the Royal Thai Embassy’s premises to promote Thailand and Thai tourism.

    Among the participants were stalls of airlines which operate flights to Bangkok, travel agents and leading Thai international hospitals which many Bangladeshi people regularly visit to offer special deals on tickets and holiday and medical packages in Thailand. Travelers could then apply for free tourist and medical visas on the spot under the same roof. Besides, there were Thai cultural shows brought to Bangladesh by the Tourism Authority of Thailand 3 times each day, Thai food offered by Thai chefs working in Dhaka and Thai fruits by courtesy of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives of Thailand.     “Good Products from the Far South” to be held in Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bangkok 

    Asean Cooing Dove Competition

    The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives will hold the “Good Products from the Far South” during 10 to 13 September at the Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF) Market next to Chatuchak Weekend Market.

    Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister, Theera Wongsamut, stated that the fair would be held for the second time as it had gained a lot of interest in its first year. He said the Ministry had played an essential part in promoting and developing the agriculture and agricultural institutions in the five southern border provinces. (More …)
