    Airport Rail Link set to be in service mid-2010

    The 28-kilometre Airport Rail Link connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport with the city centre will be fully operational within the next six months, mid-2010, at the latest, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Friday.

    Speaking after presiding over a special test run of the Airport Rail Link with members of his cabinet, Mr Abhisit said his transport minister Sophon Zarum has given assurances that the Airport Rail Link’s commercial service could be in operation as early as March or mid-2010 at latest.     The 15th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits are scheduled to be officially held during 23-25 October 2009 in Thailand (See Thailand Hotels)’s Cha-am (See Cha-am Hotels) and Hua Hin (See Hua Hin Hotels) districts of Phetchaburi (See Phetchaburi Hotels) and Prachuap Khiri Khan (See Prachuap Khiri Khan Hotels) provinces. It is considered a good opportunity for Thailand to host the international summit in two consecutive times despite the fact that the previous meeting was disrupted by the anti-government United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protesters in April last year, which caused the Thai government to cancel the 14th ASEAN Summit with dialogue partners in Pattaya (See Pattaya Hotels) , Chon Buri (See Chon Buri Hotels).
