    International firework display competition to be held in December 

    The International Fireworks Contest Series in Honor of Their Majesties the King and Queen as well as to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 5th December 2011 will be held at Muang Thong Thani in December.

    The press conference yesterday chaired by the Minister of Defence, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan with the aims to flourish the country’s prosperity and to show the citizen’s gratitude toward Their Majesties’ benevolence. Gen Prawit believed this celebratory event would proceed successfully without any problems regarding security.

    Permanent Secretary for Defence Gen Apichart Penkitti said the ongoing event would take place for two full years from December 2009 to December 2011. This year the event will be held at Muang Thong Thani Lake on 13 December, 14.00 hrs onward, with the fireworks displays presented by Germany, Japan and China. (More …)

    Care on the Loy Krathong Day 

    Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) advised consumers to handle fireworks with care, and to avoid accidents on the Loy Krathong Day.

    Mr Niroth Charuenprakob, the Secretary-General of OCPB cited that Loy Krathong was an aesthetic Thai tradition inherited from generation to generation. People would come to ask for forgiveness from the rivers. In addition, merry-making and entertainment are order of the day. Consumers should avoid accidents, especially that caused by fireworks.     Ko Samui Chief District announces the prevention of accident during Loy Kratong Festival

    The Ko Samui District Chief has asked for people’s cooperation to prevent accidents during the Loy Kratong Festival, especially the floating of lit lanterns in areas near Samui International Airport and security monitoring around the wharfs.

    Mr. Sakchai Cho Phalit, Ko Samui District Chief, made an announcement on the prevention of accidents during the annual festival – Loy Kratong 2009. It was related to possible accidents from the floating of lanterns, fireworks and the accidents near the wharfs and on the waterfront where people went to celebrate the Loy Kratong Festival. The District asked for cooperation from the shops not to sell plastic floating lanterns and fireworks as well as not to modify any fireworks that may cause injuries to people or pose household fire hazards.     Vegetarian Festival Phuket Thailand

    The atmosphere of the vegetarian festival in the southern island of Phuket is starting to get livelier with vegetarian food preparation and decorations in shrines, tourists spots and many parts of Phuket city.

    Many important shrines have started to decorate their premises with yellow flags symbolizing the celebration of the vegetarian festival while preparing to cater vegetarian food. The Phuket Municipal authorities have also beautified the city with lanterns and yellow flags. Advertising signs have been set up to invite locals and tourists to take part in the event. (More …)
