    Thailand to lose Bt3-4 billion revenue from AFTA tariff cuts 

    import and export duties

    Thailand’s Customs Department expects revenue from import and export duties will decline by Bt3-4 billon (US$90-120 million) in the wake of the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) cuts which became effective on January 1, with the department adjusting its role from tariff collector to facilitator, a senior customs official said on Friday.     Investment potential in Thailand remains high 

    The current situation in Thailand with political conflicts among the people, the southern border problem, the world economic slump, and lately the action taken by the Thai court in suspending 76 projects in Map Ta Put industrial zone, seems to affect investors’ decision-making in putting their investment in Thailand.

    However, quite a number of investors are still confident to expand their investment in Thailand such as LG Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Nissan Motors. Those entrepreneurs kept expanding their business bases in Thailand since they remain satisfied with the government’s performance and the advantages that could be gained from investment in Thailand.     Thailand-Japan trade and investment to be enchanced by both governments 

    The trade and investment barriers between Thailand and Japan will soon be resolved through the mutual cooperation between both countries.

    Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr Katsuya Okada, paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister, Mr Abhisit Vejjajiva at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. He extended his congratulations on the King’s recovery and praised the Prime Minister’s role in the 15th ASEAN Summit hosted by Thailand. (More …)
