    1 December marks World AIDS Day, a day when world wide campaigns are launched to promote awareness in prevention against AIDS/HIV, while trying to reduce the stigma often associated with HIV infected patients. Memorials for those who died of the pandemic are also observed. Apart from reducing the number of HIV patients, many organizations and agencies also try to help those people suffering from the disease, by enabling them to survive and have ordinary lives similar to others.     70 year-old Taiwanese nursing scholar received the 2008 Princess Srinagarindra Award 

    Professor Dr.Yu-Mei Yu Chao, a professional nursing scholar from Taiwan received the 2008 Princess Srinagarindra Award for her significant contribution to nursing and public health.

    Professor Dr.Yu-Mei Yu Chao spoke after the ceremony, that it had been such an honor receiving the award from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Grand Palace. Her research on Multiple Myeloma in adolescents was conducted to find out that the lack of health insurance in the past caused deaths from Multiple Myeloma in children.
