    How could a decent economy bring stability to local residents in Thailand’s far South when the ongoing southern insurgency continues? The violence that erupted in early 2004 and has continued since has left thousands of people dead in its wake and has severely affected daily life of many of the locals who see their incomes sharply depleted.

    Muslim apparel and costume accessories made by villagers in the southern border provinces are one of the incentives that government-related agencies have been trying to push forward to compete in international markets so as to improve the quality of life of local residents.

    Members of local dressmaking groups have been trained to improve their skills in designing, tailoring, lacing and embroidering Muslim clothing, thanks to the Industrial Promotion Department’s Industrial Development Project for Muslim Costume Products in Thailand’s Five Southernmost Provinces.     TAT promoting 7 Loy Krathong events nationwide

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will organize seven Loy Krathong events taking place during the holiday throughout the nation, each representing its regions unique celebration of the centuries old tradition.

    The TAT has released a schedule of festivals and events that will take place in seven provinces of Thailand for the Loy Krathong holiday this month. The first on the list is the “Colors of the Water Loy Krathong 2009” event taking place in Bangkok, the happening will run from 31 October to 2 November at the Rama VIII Bridge. In Tak province, the 1,000 floating lanterns Royal Cup Competition will take place from 31 October to 4 November along the Ping River in front of the province’s honorary hall. (More …)

    Hat Yai to host the Hat Yai Party Festival this Halloween

    Hat Yai city in Songkhla targets tourists from Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore to join Hat Yai Party Festival on October 31, the Halloween Night.

    Hat Yai Party Festival’s Director, Mr. Athirat Shureung revealed that several tourists from Malaysia and Singapore have planned to be in Hatyai for the Hat Yai Party Festival, which is held on Halloween night at the 30-meter Park, Thammanun Withi Junction in Hat Yai City. (More …)
