    World Bank projects Thai economy to grow 3.5% this year

    The World Bank has projected that the Thai economy will grow 3.5 per cent this year and 4 per cent next year, rebounding from last year, when it contracted 2.7 per cent.

    Dr Kirida Bhaopichitr, country economist for Thailand at the World Bank’s Bangkok office said Thai exports are projected to expand 15 per cent this year thanks to improved economy of Thailand’s trade partners and recovery of the tourism sector. (More …)

    The Bank of Thailand (BOT) asked Thai citizens not to panic with Dong depreciation and the Dubai Crisis.

    Deputy Governor of BOT Achana Waikuamdee stated that the Dubai World’s debt repayment adjournment would slightly affect the Thai economy as the number of Thai investments in Dubai were rather low. While the weakening of the Vietnam Dong would not cause a great impact on the Thai economy as Thailand used US dollars in the global trade and investment. (More …)

    Thailand and Poland to jointly expand trade 

    The Acting Director-General of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) indicated that Thailand and Poland are promoting bilateral trade expansion by making Thailand as the gateway for Polish products to be distributed throughout Asia.

    Acting Director-General of DEP, Srirat Ratthapana, said after a discussion between Thailand and Poland that there was room for trade expansion between the two countries. Both sides agreed to have a joint investment in diverse aspects to add value to trade. Poland was particularly interested to make Thailand the production base and gateway to distribute products to other markets in Asia. (More …)

    Buriram and Chiang Rai to be promoted as border trading points 

    The Thai Chamber of Commerce is encouraging Chiang Mai and Buriram to open border trading points to promote trade and investment with Myanmar and Cambodia respectively.

    The Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Mr Dusit Nontanakorn, today met with the provincial Chamber of Commerce of Buriram to discuss ways to promote trade and investment in the region.

    They also discussed the organizational development and information exchange between the Thai Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok and other regions. (More …)

    Thailand-Japan trade and investment to be enchanced by both governments 

    The trade and investment barriers between Thailand and Japan will soon be resolved through the mutual cooperation between both countries.

    Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr Katsuya Okada, paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister, Mr Abhisit Vejjajiva at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. He extended his congratulations on the King’s recovery and praised the Prime Minister’s role in the 15th ASEAN Summit hosted by Thailand. (More …)

    Thai Tourism Boosted by Destination Thailand Fair 2009

    The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka in cooperation with the Thai Trade Centre in Dhaka, Thai Airways International and the Tourism Authority of Thailand organized the 3-day Destination Thailand Fair 2009 during 16-18 July 2009 on the Royal Thai Embassy’s premises to promote Thailand and Thai tourism.

    Among the participants were stalls of airlines which operate flights to Bangkok, travel agents and leading Thai international hospitals which many Bangladeshi people regularly visit to offer special deals on tickets and holiday and medical packages in Thailand. Travelers could then apply for free tourist and medical visas on the spot under the same roof. Besides, there were Thai cultural shows brought to Bangladesh by the Tourism Authority of Thailand 3 times each day, Thai food offered by Thai chefs working in Dhaka and Thai fruits by courtesy of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives of Thailand.
